Justice Health is the business unit of the Department of Justice and Community Safety responsible for the delivery of health services for persons in Victorian prisons, and for children and young people in the Youth Justice system. In Victoria, health services to persons in custody are contracted to health service providers and Justice Health contract manages the health service providers.
Justice Health sets the policy and standards for health care in all Victorian prisons and youth justice precincts and monitors and reviews the performance of health service providers. Justice Health works in collaboration with the Department of Health and Human Services and Corrections Victoria to also ensure the effective transition of offenders back to the community from their place of incarceration and that mental health and alcohol and drug treatment services are provided to offenders on community based orders or parole.
The Assistant Director, Clinical Governance, reporting directly to the Executive Director Justice Health is primarily responsible for the provision of state-wide expertise in the deployment of forensic health services across custodial services, including primary and mental health services, alcohol and drug treatment services, forensic mental health services and rehabilitation services in the youth justice system.
This role is also responsible for the leadership and development of a team of clinically qualified staff and the day to day operations of health services, with the overall responsibility for the monitoring of health and alcohol and other drug service quality.
