Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

The unit of study is designed to advance existing communication skills and provide the student with the opportunity to develop additional strategies to improve their interpersonal skills when caring for patients facing various health challenges, such as life-limiting illnesses and life-threatening events.

Communication is an essential skill for the contemporary nurse. This unit of study explores the many challenges that may affect the nurse in everyday practice, and aims to empower the student to have confidence within themselves and to be an effective communicator. Students are encouraged to explore their own emotional responses to challenges and engage in self-reflection and analysis of their own communication methods and strategies to increase their awareness of sensitive issues.
