Managing Intoxication and Overdose
This module outlines the fundamental of managing patients who are intoxicated or at risk of overdose. Supportive care is outlined to a range of commonly used substances including alcohol, cannabis, hallucinogens, psychostimulants, opiates and benzodiazepines.
Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this CPD module, you should be able to:
- understand illnesses or injuries that can mimic intoxication
- identify signs and symptoms of intoxication and overdose
- identify signs of deterioration and progression from intoxication to overdose
- identify core elements for nursing management of intoxication and withdrawal states related to a range of commonly used substances.
