Neurovascular assessment determines the integrity and function of nerves and blood vessels in the affected limb.
Routine neurovascular assessment is important for patients with orthopaedic conditions and following orthopaedic surgery because it enables early detection of neurovascular deficit, nerve injury and compartment syndrome (Irwin, 2009; cited in Blair and Clarke, 2013).
On successful completion of this CPD module, you should be able to:
- identify when it is appropriate to complete a neurovascular assessment
- understand the various components of a neurovascular assessment.
