Overview
This microcredential is designed for registered nurses who want to refresh their knowledge of infection prevention and control principles in the contemporary healthcare environment. Topics include modes of transmission, standard precautions, antimicrobial stewardship, and multidrug-resistant organisms.
Throughout the microcredential, there is a strong focus on national standards and guidelines relating to infection prevention and control that underpin safe, evidence-based nursing care.
This microcredential is the first in a series of three corresponding to the unit of study 364 Infection Prevention and Control in Clinical Practice.

Available to all registered nurses and midwives regardless of the workplace setting

Scope of future study
This microcredential can be completed to receive a standalone credential or stacked together in a series of three microcredentials. Completing all three in the series allows you to apply for credit towards the unit 364 Infection Prevention and Control in Clinical Practice (6 credit points) to build towards a full Graduate Certificate in Acute Care Nursing, Graduate Certificate in Aged Care Nursing, Graduate Certificate in Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology Nursing, and Graduate Certificate in in Perioperative Nursing at ACN.

Sharron coordinates our Graduate Certificate in Perioperative Nursing. She began her nursing career in the United Kingdom where she worked in primarily in the field of women’s health, both in an acute gynaecological setting and in primary health as a qualified family planning nurse. Sharron has several years of experience within the perioperative setting, mainly in anaesthetics and recovery. She also has extensive experience in the day surgery environment. Sharron has 30 years of nursing experience and sees nursing as not only a science but also an art, with compassion, humanity and empathy at its core.
