Overview
This microcredential explores comprehensive strategies for managing pain in children, integrating both pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches. You will examine how physiological, psychological and environmental factors influence pain perception, and how children can be actively involved in their own pain assessment and management. The unit highlights multidisciplinary interventions including cognitive-behavioral, physical, complementary and emerging medical therapies and emphasises evidence-based best practice. Current research initiatives, innovative technologies and future directions in paediatric pain management are reviewed, with a focus on promoting clinical reflection, quality improvement and safe, effective, child-centred care.
This microcredential is the third and final in a series of three and corresponds to the unit of study 197- Paediatric Pain- Assessment and Management.

This microcredential is the third and final in a series of three. Completing all three in the series allows you to apply for credit towards the unit 197 Paediatric Pain- Assessment and Management (6 credit points) to build towards a full Graduate Certificate in Paediatric Nursing Studies at ACN.

- evaluate contemporary pain management strategies for infants, children, and young people in a variety of contexts in accordance with evidence-based clinical guidelines

Sharron coordinates our Graduate Certificate in Perioperative Nursing. She began her nursing career in the United Kingdom where she worked in primarily in the field of women’s health, both in an acute gynaecological setting and in primary health as a qualified family planning nurse. Sharron has several years of experience within the perioperative setting, mainly in anaesthetics and recovery. She also has extensive experience in the day surgery environment. Sharron has 30 years of nursing experience and sees nursing as not only a science but also an art, with compassion, humanity and empathy at its core.
