Practice nurses require diverse and specialist skills and knowledge so they can work collaboratively in the general practice environment. The role of the practice nurse is expanding with new models of care building on their knowledge and skills in primary health care, care coordination and supporting patients with chronic disease. This unit of study will explore the professional issues that impact on the practice nurse, understanding of funding arrangements, the use of information management systems and the provision of clinical care using evidence based guidelines and frameworks including patient and carer education, and preventative health.
