The Australian College of Nursing (ACN) is getting behind the Vinnies CEO Sleepout to raise awareness and funds for the many Australians facing homelessness.
“Tomorrow, on what is expected to be one of the longest, coldest nights of the year, I will be sleeping outdoors in Canberra to raise funds to help Vinnies provide essential services to people who need them,” Australian College of Nursing CEO Adjunct Professor Kylie Ward FACN said.
“No Australian should have to sleep rough, but we know increasing numbers of are people are homeless or are at risk of homelessness. A report released last month revealed that in the ACT, where I will be spending the night outside, the number of people sleeping rough nearly doubled between 2011 and 2016.
“As a community, we must come together to tackle this crisis. The nursing profession sees the impact of homelessness on physical and mental health every day. Supporting the Vinnies CEO Sleepout is one way we can help shine light on this issue and make a difference in people’s lives.”
This will be the Australian College of Nursing CEO, Adjunct Professor Kylie Ward’s third year participating in the Vinnies CEO Sleepout. The Canberra event will be held on 21 June at the National Museum of Australia.
