The Australian College of Nursing (ACN) welcomes today’s launch of The Third Australian Atlas of Healthcare Variation in Sydney.
“The third edition of the Atlas clearly shows differences in quality and access to health care still exist within this country,” said Australian College of Nursing (ACN) CEO Adjunct Professor Kylie Ward FACN.
“This extensive research must inform our health planning to address the health inequalities individuals and communities experience across Australia. As we head into 2019, we must prioritise policies that will remove gaps in health equality associated with where people live, affordability of care, or cultural or language barriers.”
The third edition focuses on the disparities in paediatric and neonatal health, gastrointestinal and thyroid examinations and treatments, and cardiac tests, as well as giving an outlook of the changes in use over time of opioids and antipsychotics.
“ACN will continue to consult with our expert Members to determine how nurses can assist in addressing health disparities by working with governments and health providers around Australia,” said Adjunct Professor Ward.
