Nurses welcome fairer and more equal Australia
The Australian College of Nursing (ACN) congratulates the Australian Parliament on the passage of same-sex marriage legislation yesterday, which stipulates that the right to marry in Australia will not be determined by sex or gender.
“ACN would like to acknowledge the determined effort of so many people who have long campaigned for greater equality. We extend our best wishes to same-sex couples who will now be able to marry from January 2018,” said Adjunct Professor Kylie Ward FACN, CEO of ACN.
There is a clear link between mental health and equality. The passing of the same-sex marriage bill will help reduce discrimination and improve health outcomes for our LGBTIQ population.
“ACN has always been a strong supporter of equality and the legalisation of same-sex marriage is exciting news for so many Australian families,” Adjunct Professor Ward said.
