The Australian College of Nursing connects with Northern Territory nurses
Last night, the Australian College of Nursing (ACN) held a successful networking function for its Members, Fellows and VIP guests at the Doubletree by Hilton in Darwin as part of its National Networking Roadshow.
ACN was honoured to host The Right Worshipful, The Lord Mayor of Darwin, Katrina Fong Lim, Deputy Chief Minister Hon. Peter Styles MLA and Acting Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer, Heather Keighley MACN.
ACN’s CEO, Adjunct Professor Kylie Ward FACN, said “It was a key opportunity to connect ACN’s network of nurses and nurse leaders with key health and political stakeholders”.
“Our networking events have given ACN an opportunity to discuss relevant issues and challenges with industry and academic nursing leaders, graduates and students from diverse backgrounds. Visiting Darwin reinforced the importance for ACN to continue our strong advocacy for Remote Area Nurses, particularly around issues of security, safety and support for continued professional development”, she said.
The dynamic nurses of the Northern Territory are the backbone of the health care system working innovatively to provide care to communities including vulnerable people and populations. Promoting safety and the ongoing investment in developing advanced practice nurses and nurse practitioner opportunities will be priority areas for discussion when ACN CEO Adjunct Professor Kylie Ward meets with political leaders.
This is the last of a number of VIP Cocktail Functions ACN has been hosting throughout every state and territory. Plans are currently underway for a Christmas Roadshow.
The functions focused on three key themes:
- The power of nursing as a collective voice
- The top three priorities for the future of nursing
- The top three priorities our Members and Fellows want to see from ACN
Adjunct Professor Ward said, “ACN will continue to engage with members and the wider nursing community to ensure that nurse’s voices are at the decision making tables. The success of ACN’s networking functions emphasise that the nursing profession is passionate about driving health system reform and ensuring that Australia’s health system is responsive to health challenges of the Australian population. ACN will continue to promote partnerships between nurses and government and national agencies.”
