St Vincent’s Health Australia has been providing health care in Australia for over 160 years, since the first hospital was established in Sydney in 1857 by the Sisters of Charity. St Vincent’s is now a leader in clinical care, research and education working in private hospitals, public hospitals and aged care services. St Vincent’s Hospital Network also provides a range of health services at the Parklea Correctional Centre located at Parklea in north west Sydney.

 

Recently St Vincent’s Health Network successfully tendered for the opportunity to provide a contemporary and comprehensive primary health care service to inmates at the Parklea Correctional Centre in New South Wales. This strategically meaningful new direction for St Vincent’s commenced service delivery at the Centre 31st March 2019 under a seven-year contract. It is a partnership model with Justice Health Corrective Services and the Centre’s private operator, MTC-Broad-spectrum.

 

The position of Nurse Unit Manager (NUM), Parklea Correctional Centre, forms a key part of St Vincent’s newly established primary healthcare service. Working in partnership with the Operations Manager, the NUM provides the overall leadership and management of the nursing, allied health and administration staff and professionally reports to the Network Director of Nursing (NDON), St Vincent’s Health Network Sydney. The position also provides strategic direction and ensures effective and efficient operations of the Parklea Corrections Centre in accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values of St Vincent’s Health Australia.

 

The Nurse Unit Manager, Parklea Correctional Centre is accountable for:

 

  • Ensuring high quality, efficient and effective execution of day-to-day health service delivery at the Centre, combined with a robust focus on continuous improvement
    • With the Operations Manager, setting the strategic direction and ensuring effective operational management of the Centre and monitoring performance
  • Ensuring the Parklea Corrections Centre operates within a robust set of financial and operational performance targets that represent an appropriate balance between current capabilities, acceptable performance standards and industry best

 

The Nurse Unit Manager will focus on bringing cohesion to the nursing function of the Centre by organising and directing nursing, allied health and associated administration staff within the Centre and will continue to embed the principles of quality and service across Parklea Correctional Centre.
