Forensicare provides a detailed reception mental health screening assessment for every prisoner received into custody at the Melbourne Assessment Prison (MAP) in Spencer Street West Melbourne; outpatient clinics to mentally ill prisoners within the prison; a 16 bed Acute Assessment Unit (AAU) which provides initial assessment and treatment to seriously mentally ill prisoners; an after- hours mental health crisis intervention service and consultancy and training services for prison and service staff on the treatment and management of male prisoners with mental health issues.
About the role:
The Outpatients Clinical Coordinator ensures the timely provision of high level mental health assessment and care of patients, providing support and education to carers, Correctional staff, and a variety of other stakeholders who may be involved in the treatment and well-being of patients with mental disorders. The position coordinates and undertakes risk assessment of identified complex needs patients, developing risk management plans in consultation with the Consultant Psychiatrist, Nurse Practitioner candidates and multi-disciplinary team.
The coordinator also provides leadership and supervision for nursing staff and manages staff resources, promoting best practice in the delivery of contemporary psychiatric nursing care.
You have significant experience in psychiatric nursing with a demonstrated ability to independently undertake comprehensive nursing assessments of mentally ill prisoners to plan, implement and evaluate interventions, counselling, and therapeutic programs. You have well developed written and verbal communication skills with the capacity to lead and train staff in a complex environment.
Mandatory qualifications & registrations:
- Postgraduate Diploma in Mental Health Nursing or equivalent
- Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulations Agency (AHPRA)
