Nurse Leader Raises $2300 For Canberra’s Homeless
Overnight temperatures may have plummeted to -3 degrees, but it wasn’t enough to deter Australian College of Nursing (ACN) boss Kylie Ward from raising funds and awareness for the homeless.
ACN Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Adjunct Professor Kylie Ward FACN, joined 96 other CEOs and business leaders from around the ACT to sleep rough on Thursday night for The Vinnies CEO Sleepout.
Adjunct Professor Ward raised $2387 towards the ACT fundraising total of $421,090, which will assist those without a warm bed this winter.
“The money raised in ACT has meant another van can be purchased to feed the homeless. I look forward to seeing what Sydney achieved and other cities around Australia,” Adjunct Professor Ward said.
“Canberra was exceptionally cold last night but I’m grateful that it didn’t rain.”
ACN staff from the Deakin office got into the spirit in the lead up to the Sleepout by wearing their winter woollies and onesies to work and helped to raise funds.
“We’ve had a big week and I appreciate such positivity and motivation from the teams. It’s this energy and attitude that makes us great,” Adjunct Professor Ward said.
The Sleepout in Sydney raised more than $1.66 million towards the initiative, Melbourne CEOs raised $736, 315 and Perth $582,865.
