Today our offices in Canberra and Parramatta are proud to have celebrated National Close the Gap Day with a morning tea to highlight the health inequities that still exist between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.
ACN is a Member of the Close the Gap Steering Committee and last month’s release of the 10 year review shows that we are currently far from achieving the targets as defined in the Close the Gap campaign. We urge governments to improve their efforts to Close the Gap and encourage partnering with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Nurses have a commitment to be educated and aware of the cultural responsibilities of the patients that are presented, particularly when treating Indigenous Australians. We hope that this will drive health system reform and inform the strategic direction of Australia’s health system.
