ACN is proud to support Australia’s aged care workforce by administering undergraduate aged care scholarships on behalf of the Australian Government Department of Health.

You can pursue your career goals through a scholarship for a Certificate IV in Aged Care, Diploma of Nursing or Advanced Diploma of Nursing.

Eligible courses

Applications will be considered from those who are studying or intending to study the following in semester one 2021:

  • Certificate IV in Aged Care
  • Diploma of Nursing
  • Advanced Diploma of Nursing

Eligibility criteria

The opportunity is open to ACN members and non-members, all eligible applicants are encouraged to apply.

To be eligible for a scholarship applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Australian Citizen or permanent resident of Australia
  • Undertaking a course, which commences or is continuing in semester one 2021 in the following:
    • Certificate IV in Aged Care
    • Diploma of Nursing
    • Advanced Diploma of Nursing

Courses must be provided by an Australian registered training organisation or university.

Please note: Bachelor of Nursing studies are not eligible for this scholarship. If you are studying to become a registered nurse, you may be eligible to apply for the Nursing and Midwifery Scholarships: Undergraduate.

New Zealand citizens are only eligible to apply if they have been living in Australia prior to 26 February 2001 and can provide evidence of such, or are classed as permanent residents or Australian Citizens.

Value of the scholarship

Course Duration Scholarship amount
Certificate IV in Aged Care Up to two years full time study Payment for course fees up to $6,000
Advanced Diploma of Nursing Up to two years full time study Payment for course fees up to $6,000
Diploma of Nursing Up to two years full time study or four years of part time study Up to a maximum of $20,000 for two years of full time study or four years part time study. This is paid on a per semester basis, the amount will be determined by your study load

Selection criteria

Applicants will be ranked according to the following criteria:

  • Aged care experience
  • Qualifications in aged care
  • The applicant’s rurality, which is determined according to the Modified Monash Model (MMM) determines whether a location is city, rural, or very remote
  • If the applicant identifies as coming from a culturally and linguistically diverse background
  • If the applicant identifies as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander

Selection process

The selection process for this scholarship has three stages:

Stage one

After the closing date, applications are ranked as per the selection criteria. Those applicants who ranked the highest will progress to stage two.

Stage two

Stage two applicants will receive an email early November asking them to provide documents relevant to their application. The required documentation will be evidence of the answers supplied in their application. This may include:

  • Evidence of aged care experience (if applicable)
  • Evidence of qualifications in aged care (if applicable)
  • Evidence of rurality (which is proof of address)
  • Statutory declaration regarding culturally and linguistically diverse background (if applicable)
  • Confirmation of Aboriginality (if applicable)

Applicants who do not provide all the required information will not be considered for the scholarship.

Stage three

All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their scholarship application by the end of December 2020.

Please note that there may be more applications received than there are available scholarships places. Meeting the eligibility criteria does not guarantee you a scholarship place.
