Mental Health Nursing, Allied Health and Psychology Scholarships: Postgraduate Psychology

The Mental Health Nursing, Allied Health and Psychology Scholarships Program is an Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care initiative. The program provides a range of scholarships for mental health nurses, allied health professionals and psychologists to undertake studies in mental health related fields.

The Postgraduate Psychology scholarship provides funding for psychology students to undertake postgraduate studies.


Applications for scholarships closed 11:59pm AEST, Monday 10 October 2022 – no late applications can be accepted. All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application early December 2022.

Eligibility criteria

Funding under this scheme is available for applicants who meet the following criteria:

  • are an Australian citizen or permanent resident
  • be enrolled or intending to enrol in an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council accredited postgraduate psychology course in 2023
  • have provisional registration as a psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency
  • works in the mental health sector which includes primary care, community care, psychiatric hospitals, mental health units and aged care services.

All courses must be relevant to the applicants work in the mental health sector and enhance expertise in mental health and suicide prevention.

Selection criteria

Scholarships will be awarded on the recommendation of a selection committee and will be based on how you address the following criteria:

How will your course improve the quality of people’s lives and support you to achieve good outcomes for those accessing your services?

Describe your commitment to working within mental health including:

  • Describe the services you are currently delivering to those accessing your services and the difference you hope to make in your work.

The maximum limit for each question is 200 words. It is recommended that you utilise as much of this as possible.

Please note: information collected on your rurality and being of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background will be used as a selection weighting to meet workforce need.

Value of the scholarship

The maximum amount of funding is from $15,000 to $30,000 per scholarship.
