Eligible courses

Applications will be considered from those who are studying or intending to study the following in semester one 2021:

  • Diploma of Nursing
  • Bachelor of Nursing
  • Bachelor of Midwifery

Eligibility criteria

The opportunity is open to ACN members and non-members, all eligible applicants are encouraged to apply.

To be eligible for a scholarship applicant must meet the following criteria:

  • Australian Citizen or permanent resident of Australia
  • Enrolled or intending to enroll in an accredited nursing or midwifery course that results in a nationally recognised and accredited undergraduate/entry level nursing or midwifery course. Examples of these courses are as follows:
    • Diploma of Nursing
    • Bachelor of Nursing
    • Bachelor of Midwifery

Courses must be provided by an Australian registered training organisation or university.

New Zealand citizens are only eligible to apply if they have been living in Australia prior to 26 February 2001 and can provide evidence of such, or are classed as permanent residents or Australian Citizens.

Value of the scholarship

Course Duration Scholarship amount
Diploma of Nursing Up to two years full time study or four years of part time study Up to a maximum of $20,000 for two years of full time study or four years part time study. This is paid on a per semester basis, the amount will be determined by your study load
Bachelor of Nursing or Midwifery Up to three years full time study or six years of part time study Up to a maximum of $30,000 for three years of full time study or six years part time study. This is paid on a per semester basis, the amount will be determined by your study load

Selection criteria

Applicants will be ranked according to the following criteria:

  • Household taxable income, the applicant’s declaration of income depends on whether the applicant is classified as a household dependent or is independent
  • Number of dependent children in the household
  • The applicant’s year of study
  • The applicant’s qualifications
  • The applicant’s rurality, which is determined according to the Modified Monash Model (MMM) determines whether a location is city, rural, or very remote
  • If the applicant identified as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander

Selection process

The selection process for this scholarship has three stages:

Stage one

After the closing date, applications are ranked as per the selection criteria. Those applicants who ranked the highest will progress to stage two.

Stage two

Stage two applicants will receive an email early November asking them to provide documents relevant to their application. The required documentation will be evidence of the answers supplied in their application. This may include:

  • Evidence of independence status (if applicable)
  • Evidence of household taxable income, whose income is required depends on whether the applicant is classified as a household dependent or is independent. Evidence includes;
    • Notice of assessments from the tax office
    • Centrelink PAYG summary
    • Statements from your accountant
  • Number of dependent children in the household (if applicable). This would require copies of relevant birth certificates
  • Evidence of rurality (proof of address)
  • Confirmation of Aboriginality (if applicable)

Applicants who do not provide all of the required information will not be considered for the scholarship.

Stage three

All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application by the end of December 2020.

Please note that there may be more applications received than there are available scholarships places. Meeting the eligibility criteria does not guarantee you a scholarship place.
