Refresher Program for Enrolled Nurses

This course is designed for ENs holding general registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia who meet the Recency of Practice Registration Standard of three (3) months practice in the last five years but wish to refresh their knowledge in acute care nursing. It is also ideal for nurses working in non-acute areas of practice that wish to work in acute care.

Please note that the Government Funded Refresher Program for Nurses has now been completed and the program is only available for fee-paying students.

Why study this course

The program builds on previous knowledge, skills and experience in preparation for demonstration of safe practice.

The refresher program has no clinical placement component. ACN is unable to offer clinical placements for nurses wishing to update clinical skills or meet regulatory requirements such as conditions on registration.

Learning outcomes

This course is designed to enable students to draw on the nurse’s previous nursing experience and qualifications and to build on that by providing an introduction to the contemporary requirements of the current day nurse. This includes a nurse who demonstrates professional practice, critical thinking and analysis, provision and coordination of care and collaborative and therapeutic practice.

The modules offered are:

  1. Professional Issues in Contemporary Nursing Practice
  2. Physical Assessment
  3. Care and Management of the Deteriorating Patient
  4. Respiratory Nursing
  5. Assessment and Management of Common Cardiac Conditions
  6. Neurological Assessment
  7. Mental Health
  8. Infection Prevention and Control
  9. Wound Management

*COVID-19 Mandatory modules have been added to this course for students commencing from September 2021 onwards.

Assessment

Student will accrue 4 hours of CPD per module.

At the end of each module learners will need to complete an assessment quiz. A score of 80% or more in each quiz is needed to progress to the next module. Learners are allowed three attempts at each of the quizzes to be deemed successful for that module.

On successful completion of all modules learners will be able to print out their own certificate of completion.

Fee paying participants have three months from the time of enrolment to complete the course.
