We are powerful individually, but unstoppable together

We are committed to ensuring that the expertise and experiences of nurses are represented in policy development throughout the Australian health and aged care system.

Fellows and Members of ACN are regularly invited to participate in consultations on a broad range of clinical, professional and health policy issues. Opportunities to contribute to ACN submissions are advertised through our monthly eNewsletter and by direct communication with members.

Policy Chapters

Each Policy Chapter focuses on a specific issue and draws on the specialised skills and expertise of members of ACN and external stakeholders to work with and influence government and policy makers. In 2020 we are introducing a new Policy Chapter titled Emissions Reduction Policy Chapter which will focus on reducing our carbon footprint through nursing leadership. We welcome returning Chapter members as well as new members who bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to their Chapters in 2020. We are very proud of the work that the Policy Chapters have produced in recent years and are excited by the work being undertaken this year. Our Policy Chapters in 2020 are:

  • Chronic Disease
  • Emissions Reduction
  • End of Life Care
  • Workforce Sustainability

White Papers

Position statements

ACN is committed to ensuring that the expertise and experiences of nurses are represented in policy development throughout the Australian health and aged care system. We develop position statements in response to issues that are relevant to and/or directly impact on the nursing profession.

Discussion papers

Discussion papers are evidence based, and are intended to provide balanced information on a particular topic without espousing a particular position. A discussion paper does not stand by itself as a statement of policy but may be used to formulate a position statement on the same topic.

Policy submissions

ACN is regularly invited to provide input and advice to government and non-government consultations on a number of nursing and health-related matters. So in order to provide the most comprehensive responses, ACN seeks input from members in their areas of expertise and submits these to the relevant government department or organisation.

Policy consultations

ACN’s Policy team seeks opportunities to promote nursing and advocate for optimal community health outcomes by responding to consultations and inquiries conducted by Australian Government departments, federal and state parliaments and other organisations.
