The Chronic Wound Scholarship Program has been established to support nurses and Aboriginal Health Workers (AHWs) in undertaking short courses focused on wound management. With 186 scholarships available for Nurses and specifically 40 for AHWs, each valued at maximum of $1500, this initiative aims to enhance clinical skills and improve patient outcomes in wound care.
Eligible courses must offer intensive education in wound management, include an assessment component or clinical hours, provide documentation of course completion, and contribute at least 14 hours towards continuing professional development (CPD).

The next round of applications will open Monday, 12 January 2025.
Applicable short courses for scholarship
To be eligible to apply, applicants must be studying one of the following short courses:

Note: If your course is not listed in the table above, please contact the scholarships team for further assessment to determine eligibility.
A short course is:
Not a formal qualification such as a Master’s degree, Graduate Certificate, Bachelor’s degree, Certificate course, Diploma, or any other structured tertiary program.
Not a conference, seminar, or webinar.
Not a subject that forms part of a broader degree program.
For example, a unit like ‘101 Wound Care’ within a Bachelor of Nursing would not be eligible. However, the ‘Single Unit of Study in Wound Management’ offered by the Australian College of Nursing is eligible, as it is delivered independently in a short course format.
The Course Provider must be an organisation that specifically caters to the Australian education and industries of nursing and healthcare.
Eligibility criteria
Short Course – Nurses
To be eligible to apply, applicants must:
be an Australian Citizen or permanent resident of Australia.
hold current registration as an enrolled or registered nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
be currently employed in a primary health care setting.
Short Course – Aboriginal Health Workers and Health Practitioners
To be eligible to apply, applicants must:
be an Australian Citizen or permanent resident of Australia.
be currently employed in a primary care setting as an Aboriginal Health Worker or Health Practitioner.
Please note that, according to the Modified Monash Model, applicants from rural and remote areas will receive additional weighting.
Selection criteria

How will completing a Wound Care short course improve your ability to deliver best practice wound care as a nurse? (200 words)
How will your participation in a Wound Care Short Course positively impact wound management outcomes in your workplace? (200 words)
Funding details
These scholarships are for nurses and Aboriginal Health Workers (AHWs’) to undertake a short course in wound care. The scholarship will be valued at $1,500. Any funds awarded are considered a contribution towards the recipient’s activity costs. The scholarship payments are considered a contribution towards your course costs and can be used towards fees, accommodation, living, and travel costs incurred while studying, though it is expected that the recipient will meet some of the costs of study themselves.
