This unit of study provides students with opportunities to consolidate and expand their clinical knowledge, skills, and attitudes within the specialty of post anaesthetic care nursing. Issues and content covered in this unit of study provide students with an opportunity to develop advanced clinical skills, especially in airway management, respiratory and cardiac assessment, management of context-specific technology and enhanced decision-making skills.

Theme 1: The PARU environment & initial patient assessment a) apply the nursing knowledge and skills required to provide a comprehensive nursing assessment and plan nursing care to meet the needs of the patient during the post anaesthetic phase Assessment 1: Online activity – Guided case analysis 10% 3

Theme 4: Fluid balance & fluid replacement therapy d) propose comprehensive, safe and effective evidence-based practice related to the nursing assessment and management of acute pain and postoperative nausea and vomiting in PARU Assessment 4: Case analysis (2,000 words) 50% 10
