This unit of study provides students with opportunities to consolidate and expand their clinical knowledge, skills, and attitudes within the specialty of interventional radiology nursing. It concentrates on healthcare in the periprocedural environment. In applying theory to practice providing optimum nursing care, students examine, anatomy and physiology, pharmacokinetics preparing people for procedures and managing techniques and technology specific to the procedural environment. The nurse working in interventional radiology needs a sound foundation of physiology, disease processes, assessment and management options to form the basis for clinical decision-making and problem-solving.
