Overview
This microcredential is suitable for nurses caring for individuals diagnosed with cancer in various practice settings, including acute inpatient, specialist oncology units, outpatient services, and community cancer care.
Multidisciplinary cancer care involves collaboration among a variety of clinical specialists to deliver holistic, patient-centred management across the cancer continuum. This integrative approach enhances treatment efficacy, continuity of care, and psychosocial support, ultimately improving clinical outcomes and quality of life. Cultural safety is a critical component within cancer care, requiring clinicians to recognise and respect individuals’ cultural identities, beliefs, and values. It promotes culturally responsive communication and shared decision-making, particularly for First Nation peoples and culturally and linguistically diverse populations. Collectively, these principles underpin equitable, ethical, and effective oncology practice.
This microcredential is the third in a series of three corresponding to the unit of study 329 Principles of Cancer Care.

This microcredential is the third and final in a series of three. Completing all three in the series allows you to apply for credit towards the unit 329 Principles of Cancer Care (6 credit points) to build towards a full Graduate Certificate in Breast Cancer Nursing or Graduate Certificate in Cancer Nursing at ACN.

Sharron coordinates our Graduate Certificate in Perioperative Nursing. She began her nursing career in the United Kingdom where she worked in primarily in the field of women’s health, both in an acute gynaecological setting and in primary health as a qualified family planning nurse. Sharron has several years of experience within the perioperative setting, mainly in anaesthetics and recovery. She also has extensive experience in the day surgery environment. Sharron has 30 years of nursing experience and sees nursing as not only a science but also an art, with compassion, humanity and empathy at its core.
