Overview
The knowledge gained from working through the readings and activities in this microcredential will help you understand body systems’ function, regulation, and maintenance concerning the typical stages of embryonic and fetal development. You will explore genetic and environmental factors that may interfere with neonatal growth and development. This knowledge is helpful because it prepares you to reflect, research, and learn more about the factors that may impede a newborn’s successful transition to extrauterine life.
This microcredential is the first in a series of three that corresponds to the unit of study 071 Applied Neonatal Physiology.
Entry requirements
Available to all registered nurses and midwives employed in peri-natal environments
Scope of future study
This microcredential can be completed to receive a standalone credential or stacked together in a series of three microcredentials. Completing all three microcredentials in the series allows you to apply for credit towards the unit 071 Applied Neonatal Physiology (6 credit points) to build towards a full Graduate Certificate in Neonatal Care at ACN.

Sharron coordinates our Graduate Certificate in Perioperative Nursing. She began her nursing career in the United Kingdom where she worked in primarily in the field of women’s health, both in an acute gynaecological setting and in primary health as a qualified family planning nurse. Sharron has several years of experience within the perioperative setting, mainly in anaesthetics and recovery. She also has extensive experience in the day surgery environment. Sharron has 30 years of nursing experience and sees nursing as not only a science but also an art, with compassion, humanity and empathy at its core.
