Overview
This microcredential is designed for health professionals who care for people diagnosed with both typical and atypical Parkinson’s and provides students with the opportunity to extend their knowledge of this specialty area. In this microcredential, students will examine contemporary assessment and management techniques while critiquing therapeutic approaches to care at all stages, with reference to best practice guidelines. Students will examine pertinent psychosocial issues relating to the care of a person diagnosed with Parkinson’s and their carers using a multidisciplinary approach.
This microcredential is the second in a series of three that corresponds to the unit of study 299 Parkinson’s Care.
Entry requirements
Applicable to all registered nurses regardless of the workplace setting.

Scope of future study
This microcredential can be completed to receive a standalone credential or stacked together in a series of three microcredentials. Completing all three in the series allows you to apply for credit towards unit 299 Parkinson’s Care (6 credit points) to build towards a full Graduate Certificate in Aged Care Nursing at ACN.

- evaluate health outcomes to plan health promotion strategies for people diagnosed with Parkinson’s
- appraise the role of the multidisciplinary team in the provision of holistic care for people diagnosed with Parkinson’s

Sharron coordinates our Graduate Certificate in Perioperative Nursing. She began her nursing career in the United Kingdom where she worked in primarily in the field of women’s health, both in an acute gynaecological setting and in primary health as a qualified family planning nurse. Sharron has several years of experience within the perioperative setting, mainly in anaesthetics and recovery. She also has extensive experience in the day surgery environment. Sharron has 30 years of nursing experience and sees nursing as not only a science but also an art, with compassion, humanity and empathy at its core.
