Overview
This microcredential is designed for registered nurses (RNs) who work in various environments. It is the first in the Dermatology microcredential series and is equivalent to 2 credit points for a postgraduate unit of study. You are required to attend 50 hours of study. The purpose of this microcredential is to explore legal and ethical issues in dermatology nursing as well as anatomy and physiology of the integumentary system. The first module discusses the nurses’ roles and the specific ethical and legal issues that might arise in dermatology nursing. Students will then move on to the following modules which focus on the anatomy and physiology of the integumentary system. This knowledge can be applied to nursing practice through various activities and assessments.
This microcredential is the first in a series of three that corresponds to the unit of study 308 Applied Dermatological Anatomy and Physiology.

Scope of future study
This microcredential can be completed to receive a standalone credential or stacked together in a series of three microcredentials. Completing all three in the series allows you to apply for credit towards the unit 308 Applied Dermatological Anatomy and Physiology (6 credit points) to build towards a full Graduate Certificate in Cosmetic Nursing or the Graduate Certificate in Dermatology Nursing at ACN.

- reflect upon the legal and ethical issues that affect dermatology and cosmetic nursing practiceidentify various types of pain and discuss the underlying pathophysiology in infants, children, and young people

Sharron coordinates our Graduate Certificate in Perioperative Nursing. She began her nursing career in the United Kingdom where she worked in primarily in the field of women’s health, both in an acute gynaecological setting and in primary health as a qualified family planning nurse. Sharron has several years of experience within the perioperative setting, mainly in anaesthetics and recovery. She also has extensive experience in the day surgery environment. Sharron has 30 years of nursing experience and sees nursing as not only a science but also an art, with compassion, humanity and empathy at its core.
