Overview
The purpose of this microcredential is to offer an introductory view into breast cancer. This microcredential provides the nurse greater insight into the anatomy and physiology of the breast and a description of the transition from normal cells to cancer cells. Breast cancer will be discussed in detail including types of breast cancer, risk factors and the impact of breast cancer on a variety of cohorts. It establishes a sound underpinning of knowledge for the nurse who wants to be introduced to the foundational concepts of breast cancer.
This microcredential is the first in a series of three that corresponds to the unit of study 327 Principles of Breast Cancer Nursing.

Scope of future study
This microcredential can be completed to receive a standalone credential or stacked together in a series of three microcredentials. Completing all three microcredentials in the series allows you to apply for credit towards the unit 327 Principles of Breast Cancer Nursing (6 credit points) to build towards a full Graduate Certificate in Breast Cancer Nursing or Cancer Nursing at ACN.

Sharron coordinates our Graduate Certificate in Perioperative Nursing. She began her nursing career in the United Kingdom where she worked in primarily in the field of women’s health, both in an acute gynaecological setting and in primary health as a qualified family planning nurse. Sharron has several years of experience within the perioperative setting, mainly in anaesthetics and recovery. She also has extensive experience in the day surgery environment. Sharron has 30 years of nursing experience and sees nursing as not only a science but also an art, with compassion, humanity and empathy at its core.
