What a great night was had at the Australian College of Nursing (ACN) Sydney Region End of Year Event! The fundraising event for the Bayside Women’s Shelter raised over $3,500 to support women in crisis after experiencing domestic or family violence.
Robyn Quinn FACN, Chair of ACN’s NSW Network and Sydney Region, welcomed all attendees and introduced Adjunct Professor Kylie Ward FACN who reconfirmed ACNs commitment to ensuring nurses are equipped to mitigate, manage, and prevent domestic and family violence in the community safely and compassionately.
Sallianne Faulkner, General Manager of Bayside Women’s Shelter, talked about the important programs conducted at Bayside, a community-funded shelter that responds to women and families in crisis. Sallianne proudly spoke of how women are not controlled, nor coerced, but are provided with a supportive environment to get back on their feet. Bayside help women with medical, mental health issues and getting their children into schools and community groups.
Kate (our amazing Comms officer) was key to the organisation along with Hayley from Victoria and Caitlyn from Wollongong who all helped with setting up and packing away.
Overall, there were around 85 people in attendance – mostly nurses from clinical and academic fields as well as some friends and partners. We had students about to graduate, a large number of ACN Emerging Nurse Leaders (ENLs) and visitors from Melbourne, Canberra and all-around Sydney.
It was great to see some ENLs in deep conversation with women who had been nursing for decades. There was plenty of music, laughing, talking and just a little bit of dancing.

What a networking event!
Thank you to all those who attended and those who helped us raise over $3,500 for Bayside Women’s Shelter. Thank you also to the sponsors – ACN and the University of Technology Sydney. Prizes donated included wine from Andrew Peace Wines, a holiday at Ballina Beach Nature Resort, Tiffany & Co glasses and some beautiful earrings.
