Survivorship care is a vital component of breast cancer management. Nurses play a central role in ensuring continuity of care and must have the skills and knowledge to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team supporting patients after initial treatment. This unit focuses on the breast care nurse’s role in follow-up care, survivorship, and the management of breast cancer recurrence. It aims to build understanding of survivorship care models, metastatic breast disease, and the communication and psychological challenges that arise in advanced stages of care. The unit also explores the immediate and long-term needs of breast cancer survivors to promote holistic wellbeing. In addition, it prepares breast care nurses to deliver culturally responsive survivorship care and improve outcomes for individuals from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
