For nurses, career advancement does not end the second they clock off at work. Continuing professional development (CPD), networking events, and even keeping up a social life with your fellow nurses are crucial parts of maintaining a long-term career in the profession.
At the Australian College of Nursing (ACN), our community has endless opportunities to connect, develop their skills and meet like-minded colleagues. Whether it is through our Graduate Certificates, Single Units of Study, CPD, Faculties and Regions, or a social nursing event, any chance to develop skills and network with your colleagues can help enhance your career and your life.
This month, ACN has a jam-packed schedule of nursing events, CPD and social opportunities to connect with your nursing friends and colleagues.
With so many things happening, it can be hard to tell where to start. We have collated together what is taking place across ACN to make June a fulfilling month to progress your career and engage with your profession.
Learn a new skill or recertify in wound management
For nurses looking to upskill or recertify in wound management care, this two-day workshop provides the knowledge to complete wound management through the HEIDIE method (history, examination, investigations, diagnosis, implementation, evaluation). Upon passing the two-day course, nurses will have proficiency in wound management, including specific areas of care across the human body.
The course is presented by Gary Bain RN CNC MClinEd BN DipApSc MACN, who has travelled across Australia to provide the wound management training directly to the nursing community. In June, Gary will facilitate the Wound Management Update in Melbourne, Victoria, and Coffs Harbour, NSW.

Get ready for your next nursing leap with the Sydney Region
Having a flawless resume and cover letter is just one element of progressing your career. Knowing what your Director of Nursing and Midwifery is looking for, how to address selection criteria and create a flawless application can be the difference between getting a job and missing out.
On Tuesday 6 June, join the ACN Sydney Region for an online webinar as they hear from Linda Davidson FACN, National Director for Professional Practice, Australian College of Nursing.
Linda will be sharing insights from her 49 years of experience in nursing, midwifery and senior nurse/midwifery leadership so you can put your best foot forward for your next job application.
Learn more about the Faculty priorities with the First Nations Yarning Circle
This month, the First Nations Faculty will be hosting a nursing event. Their second Yarning Circle aims to better understand the ACN First Nations community and discuss the strategic priorities for the year. With three sessions throughout 2023, the First Nations Faculty want to hear from First Nations nurses about the challenges, barriers and wins in professional development and your career.
This month’s session will be held on Wednesday 14 June. The First Nations Faculty Leadership Team will be present to answer your questions, including Dr Odette Best FACN (Chair), Bruce Martin MACN (Deputy Chair), Melanie Robinson MACN (Communications Coordinator), and Steve Warren MACN (Secretariat).
Add to your CPD hours with upcoming face-to-face courses
